Formed in 1987 by director David MacSwan the company has produced the following productions: A Midsummer Nights Dream, Twelfth Night, Romeo &  Juliet, The Taming Of The Shrew, The Merry Wives Of Windsor, Macbeth, As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Richard III, The Merchant Of Venice, Henry V, Hamlet, The Comedy Of Errors, The Two Gentlemen Of Verona, The Tempest, Henry IV part 1, Henry IV part 2, Measure For Measure, The Winter's Tale Julius Caesar, The Tamer Tamed (John Fletcher's "sequel" to the Taming of the Shrew) and King Lear.

The aim of the company is to present Shakespeare's work as he intended it; accessibly, entertainingly and with the respect it deserves but the irreverence it can afford. The company is also a chance to see some of the brightest new talent on the theatrical scene, mixing with some of the most experienced.

DAVID MACSWAN - Director


Graduate of NIDA, the Sydney Acting School and Master of Creative Arts University of Wollongong, currently working towards a PhD at UNSW.  He has directed for Shakespeare By the Sea: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, Richard III, Othello, Henry V, The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, The Comedy of Errors, Henry IV parts 1 & 2 (Co-directed with C.Burke), The Tempest, The Two Gentlemen of Verona Measure for Measure , King Lear, The Winter’s Tale, The Tamer Tamed and Julius Caesar. For Iron Cove Theatre: The Red Devils, Much Ado About Nothing. For SWYLI Tie Co: Romeo & Juliet, Othello, Macbeth. For Thomas Productions: You, The Night and the House Wine. For Shakespeare in the Park Macbeth. MICHEAL PENTECOST - Fight Instructor

TRAINING: qualified as a fight instructor with Sydney Stage Combat School. He has worked in a stage combat capacity for The Sydney Theatre Company, Opera Australia and elsewhere, most recently assisting Lawrence Carmichael in the ABC’s upcoming return season of Double the Fist (in which he also acted). He has taught students at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, The Actors’ Centre, The Actors’ College and at the school itself. Having trained as an actor at The Drama Studio, London, he was introduced to stage combat by the renowned John Waller. He has performed in countless fight scenes throughout his acting career, not a few of them in scenes from Shakespeare. Performing in a production of King Lear some six years ago, he met with Lawrence Carmichael and was introduced to the Sydney Stage Combat School, where he has worked and trained since, becoming an instructor in 2006.
